Preparing for Your Visit & Insurance
Planning ahead for your eye consultation can help ensure a smooth and efficient experience. This page provides guidance on what to expect during your visit, what to bring, and how payment and insurance may apply.
At Claris Eye Centre, we aim to provide a comfortable and well-supported experience from consultation through to treatment and follow-up care.
Preparing for Your Appointment
To help your consultation proceed smoothly, you may wish to prepare the following:
What to Bring
- Identification (e.g. NRIC, FIN or passport)
- Relevant medical reports or referral letters
- A list of current medications
- Previous eye prescriptions (if available)
- Insurance or panel details (if applicable)
Providing this information allows for a more complete assessment of your eye health.
Allow Time for Your Visit
A comprehensive eye assessment may take longer than a standard consultation, particularly if detailed tests are required.
In some cases, your pupils may be dilated for retinal examination. This may cause:
- Temporary blurred vision
- Sensitivity to light
You may wish to avoid driving immediately after your visit and consider arranging transport if needed.
What to Expect During Your Visit
Your consultation may include:
- Review of your symptoms and medical history
- Vision testing
- Examination of the front and back of the eye
- Imaging or specialised tests where required
Your eye specialist will explain the findings and discuss whether monitoring or treatment may be appropriate.
Costs and Payment
Consultation and treatment fees may vary depending on:
- The nature of the condition
- Complexity of assessment or procedures
- Tests or imaging required
A cost estimate will be provided where appropriate before any procedures are performed.
Insurance and Medisave
Many private insurance plans in Singapore may provide coverage for eye consultations, diagnostic tests and certain procedures.
Coverage depends on:
- Your specific insurance policy
- Whether the clinic is on your insurer’s panel
- The type of condition or procedure
Patients are advised to check with their insurer regarding coverage, pre-authorisation requirements and claim limits.
Our clinic team can assist with documentation where required.
Corporate Insurance Specialist Panels
Our clinic is on the Corporate Specialist Panels listed below:
We can help check if your corporate insurance allows cashless (direct billing) or requires payment upfront with reimbursement based on corporate rates. For cashless arrangements, insurer requirements may apply, such as presenting a valid insurance card and/or a referral letter from a panel GP.
Integrated Plan Specialist Panels
Dr Helen Mi Fang is a panel doctor on the Integrated Plan Specialist Panels listed below:
Medisave may be used for selected ophthalmic procedures performed in Singapore, subject to Ministry of Health (MOH) guidelines.
Cataract Surgery
Cataract surgery is one of the most commonly Medisave-claimable eye procedures.
Medisave may typically be used for:
- Cataract surgery (including lens implantation)
- Associated surgical and facility fees
Claim limits are based on MOH guidelines and may vary depending on the complexity of the procedure and the type of intraocular lens selected.
Other Eye Procedures
Some other eye procedures may also be Medisave-claimable if they meet clinical and regulatory criteria.
Eligibility depends on:
- The medical necessity of the procedure
- Procedure classification under MOH guidelines
Our clinic will advise on Medisave eligibility following clinical assessment. For latest information, please refer to MOH’s website.
Payment Options
Payment is typically required after consultation or on the day of the procedure.
Accepted modes of payment may include:
- Cash
- NETS
- Credit or debit cards
For surgical procedures, financial counselling may be provided in advance, including estimated costs and claimable amounts.
After Your Visit
Following your consultation or procedure:
- You may be given medications or eye drops
- Follow-up appointments may be scheduled
- Instructions for eye care and recovery will be provided
It is important to attend follow-up visits to monitor your condition and response to treatment.
